Sarah Strong
(Production Assistant)

Where are you from?

Originally, Bristol

Do you have much production (stage or TV) experience? What was the first production you worked on?

I was involved in a behind-the-scenes capacity on a number of school and college productions; follow-spot, prompt, backstage crew, lighting, set painting - that sort of thing. I did 'act' in a production of Oliver which involved singing the painfully unanswered question of 'who wants to buy my sweet red roses?' - this was sufficient to quell any serious urges to tread the boards and any leanings in that direction faded like the rose-petals after that really. Thus I determined to make myself comfy in a behind-scenes type way.

How did you get involved in Fluffy?

I saw Henry's post on buffyUK.org site which I visit fairly regularly and decided that it was a plum opportunity to get back into productions...I hadn't done anything since sixth form college.

Why did you volunteer to help out on clapperboard?

Did I volunteer? I can't remember! I can only hope that it was in my laidback 'yeah, sure, fine, whatever' sort of a way. However, I confess that I had a sneaking urge to try the clapperboard for size; it is a leit-motif of the filmmaking process. :)

Is this your first film, or have you been involved in other films?

This is my first film, but I hope it's not my last

Are you a Buffy fan?

I am indeed. I was sucked into the Buffyverse a bit over a year ago.

What have you gained from your involvement in Fluffy?

Oo! Where do I start? Fab bunch of people - I love that 'pulling-together' aspect of a production (especially perhaps on a low budget production), something new to focus on with a real sense of achievement to be had once it's done. I like the way we all muck in with everything.

Do you have any claims to fame? (E.g. meeting famous people, appearances on TV / stage etc.)

Well, I was once in the audience of 'Light Lunch' - laughing and eating a cheese sandwich. And I was in a photo in The Guardian a few years back, looking terribly interested in a CND speech by Bruce Kent. And I met John Craven of Newsround when I was younger, but I don't think he'll remember.

Any hobbies / obsessions? (Things you enjoy doing)

I faff quite a bit, I spend hours just faffing. Faffing while listening to CDs and drinking wine. I like strolling around overgrown graveyards (this is a pre-Buffy thing). I also trawl around antiques markets looking for 78s for my gramophone. I've catalogued my 78s..I s'pose that's just a librarian thing though...

Any amusing acting / production cockups (faux pas) - things going wrong on stage etc.?

I'd say my acting is amusing, but not in a funny way. I think I've blocked out any embarrassing moments from my limited stage experience. Although, there was an incident when I was in orchestra...

Any bizarre talents?

Does having double-jointed fingers count? I can make people grimace by bending my fingers back at unnatural angles.

Any amusing / mad stories about things you've done, or have happened to you?

There was the time when I was strolling along Brighton seafront with my sister and a sheep ran, bleating, past us, heading in the direction of Hove. Nobody else seemed to notice though. And there was the giant Creme Egg on wheels that overtook the bus when I was on my way to work on that fateful March morning. The evening at TGI Fridays when we were sat under a chicken, the bottom fell off my glass of beer and everything that was vaguely veggie on the menu seemed to be unavailable was a most bizarre one. Oh, and I did once go into WHSmiths, to the bouncing Tigger display, pressed down all the tiggers and legged it away as the display fell apart.

Any achievements you'd like to mention?

See, tiggers, above. Would it be rude to mention my MA? I am quite proud that I managed to get through that. Oh, and the Maria Mercer prize for being quite good at archaeological drawing (the official name escapes me) which I was awarded in 1996 when I was on my undergrad course. I once programmed the clock a friend's microwave using the instructions for a completely different model. It's something I'm going to tell my grandchildren.

Any annoying habits? Are there any things that you say a lot?

I've been saying 'smashing' and 'cheers' a lot recently, not sure why though. I have a constant urge to put things in alphabetical order (but I consider this a boon).

Favourite films?

I could probably have a list of 50 favourite films but off the top of my head I'll settle for Metropolis, The Indiana Jones Trilogy, Mr Hulot's Holiday and The Matrix for now.

Favourite director(s) + actor(s) + actress(es)?

Tricky, ummm - Peter Greenaway, John Cusack, Gillian Anderson. I'll just put those, if I start listing, we could be here some time.

If you could meet one person dead or alive, who would it be?

Crikey, just one? Well Jesus would be interesting, I could ask him 'what the hell he thinks he's doing?' otherwise David Boreanaz would be quite acceptable thank you.

What's your favourite fluffy thing?

The blue, fluffy, squeaky 2 that does a somersault on BBC2.
