I recently took part in a "trailer challenge" for the Sci-Fi-London Film Festival, where I had one week to put together a trailer for a science fiction film. The results were announced today in London, and I was amazed to find I'd been awarded 2nd prize for my trailer "Transition".
The entire thing was done in a week of evenings (the challenge just happened to coincide with two busy weekends for me!) so I decided not to even try using any actors and ended up rendering the entire thing using a combination of Terragen and MojoWorld, with some text laid on top.
I had lots of ambitious ideas which failed to materialise in the time I had - there were going to be figures composited in some of the scenes and possibly a spacecraft lifting up from the planet's surface in a shot towards the end. But it seems that keeping it simple was actually the right move.
It may well be available on the internet soon, so I'll update this item with a link to it then.
I have to say, I was incredibly impressed by almost all of the other 35 trailers which were screened today - I'd pay good money to go and see the films if any were ever actually produced. Even the one that featured a guy wrapped in tin-foil (where have I seen that done before???) |
