Dr Stone screened
This weekend saw the first screening of "The Sinister Dr Stone" in Manchester, to a very select audience of myself, Howell Parry (Production Manager/Passer-by), Antony Danaos (Dr Stone), Jo Harvey (Dr Stone's assistant), Torkjel Matzow (Passer-by) and Julie O'Brien (Passer-by). It went well, but I don't think they were expecting something quite as sinister as it has turned out! It's not a typical "light-hearted" Foiled Productions short!!

If I get time this week, I'll put up some stills from the film and a brief summary.

Dr Stone post-production finished
Well after weeks of putting it off, I finally sat down this weekend and did all the post-production on The Sinister Dr Stone. It's done.

This mainly involved grabbing weird and wonderful sound effects from anything and everything I could get my hands on, building up some really sinister effects by dropping the pitch and mixing sounds together (for some reason my fridge sounds insanely ominous pitched down an octave or two) and then finishing the thing off by pumping up the contrast and messing with the colour schemes for the different locations. Cool for outside, warmer indoors, and very yellow for when things get crazy.

I'll render it out to DVD and other formats overnight tonight, and that's it until the first cast/crew screening in Manchester later this month.

It's been a lot harder work than it should have been. Mainly because I've been very lazy about the post-production work and been doing lots of non-film-related stuff instead!

Dr Stone rough-cut complete
The first rough-cut of our latest short film "The Sinister Dr Stone" is now complete, coming in at just under eight minutes without closing credits - longer than I was expecting. There's still quite a lot of work involved in finishing it, from basic tidying up of the edits, to putting the crucial audio effects in place. The World Premiere date has already been set - Saturday 22nd April - so it will be complete by then. Expect a version online soon afterwards...

Happy New Year
Welcome to 2006, now more than 10 years since Foiled Productions started on its journey to make movies, and more than 10 years since this web-site began its life on a corporate subnet before being moved onto a personal homepage and then finally to the address you see it at today.

Unfortunately no copies of the original web-site still exist (even on archive.org) but I suspect that when our first production diary entry was created on the internet in March '96, we were quite possibly the first web-site to detail the making of a film via what's now known as a blog. The internet's moved on a lot since then, and now it's more of a rarity for a film not to have an accompanying web-site!

But enough of that - you might be wondering what's happened to the films currently being edited. Well, surprise surprise, they're still at that stage. Various other projects have temporarily taken up my spare time (for example, a puzzle web-site I set up www.kwontomloop.com) but let's hope that this year some progress is finally made on the films!!! I know the cast are eager to see them if no-one else...

I've also had a play around with Google Video, so expect to see streaming versions of some of our movies becoming available via that soon. UFO Spotters is already listed there.
